    This week in class, we learned about NGSS, which stands for Next Generation Science Standards. In class, we discussed how to read the codes for the standards topic, and discussed how NGSS is a fairly new development for science classes in school, and how it benefits students learning. I plan on applying what I learned this week about NGSS to my future teaching by following and implementing NGSS practices in my future classroom. I like how NGSS is more hands on for students and how it allows them to learn by doing. For my future class, I would like to follow NGSS objectives because I believe that their hands on learning standards are more beneficial for students understanding. A remaining question that I have regarding NGSS is if there is any professional development with teachers in regard to learning more about NGSS. Since this is a fairly new development with teaching in schools, I feel it would be beneficial for teachers to partake in learning more about ways to teach NGSS and how to use it to its full advantage in the classroom.

    Hi Morgan! This is a great blog post, I think we both have the same ideas when we are deciding how to implement these standards into our future classrooms. I also agree with you how you like that NGSS is very hands on for the students!

    Hi Morgan! I also agree that applying NGSS to our future classrooms, especially with hands-on experience, would be great for students! Regarding your question, I really hope there are PD sessions for it and other new developments to make it easier for us in the future and other teachers to learn new programs faster and with less struggle!

  What did you learn this week?  This week we learned and explored how to create a lesson for 5th graders using phenomenon to learn about the conservation of matter. We used baking soda, vinegar and other tools like a scale, balloon, and funnel to explore this investigation. We had to participate in multiple experiments before we found a structured way we could explain this phenomenon to students. There was a lot of trial and error, for example we realized that using a balloon wasn't the best way to demonstrate the conservation of matter, so we had to adjust our experiment. When we adjusted our experiment, we took away the balloon and added baking soda by using a test tube into the soda bottle. Week 5 Galaxies to Black Holes

  What did you do in lab today? This week in lab we presented our projects to our class. My group presented over The Lifecycle of Stars. Other groups presentations consisted of Meteors, Meteorites, Craters, and Comets, Galaxies, and Black Holes. ​ What was the big question?  The big question for this week revolved around the presentations, as each group came with a set of multiple choice questions that allowed the listeners to think deeply about the content that was discussed.  ​ What did you learn in Thursday’s discussion?  I learned more about galaxies in Thursday's discussion which helped me understand them better. I learned that there are 2 trillion galaxies, that each galaxy has about 200 billion suns, and that a galaxy is just a collection of hundreds of billions of stars. Week 1: Earth Moon System

  What did you do in lab today? In lab, we talked about why we have seasons. We specifically talked about how the seasons work based upon direct sunlight and how much sunlight is hitting the surface of the earth at a certain time. We discussed how seasons happen when direct sunlight hits a tropic (northern and southern line).        ​ What was the big question? The big question that we were answering these 2 days was "Why do we have season?"  ​ What did you learn in Thursday’s discussion? In Thursday's discussion, we also discussed why we have seasons, specifically talking about how being closer to the sun does NOT mean it is warmer.
